Oct 09, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed relevant authorities to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the heavy rains that prevailed in the country.
The President who is on a two-day state visit to Seychelles has instructed the Minister of Disaster Management Duminda Dissanayake not to make financial provisions a limitation when providing relief to the affected people.
The President also instructed the Minister of Disaster Management to uninterruptedly continue the welfare programs required to provide the disaster relief including dry rations, drinking water and health facilities to the people.
The President also instructed the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne to obtain the assistance of the Tri-forces to help rescue those affected by floods.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri informed the House that some clauses of the 20th amendment to the constitution need to be passed by a special majority vote of the parliament and a referendum as per the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Expressing his sorrow to the people affected by the bad weather, the President expressed his deepest sympathy to the relatives of the victims who perished in the disastrous weather.
