* New scheme to dispose non-hazardous waste becomes operational at BOI's Biyagama EPZ
Mon, Oct 8, 2018, 06:06 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 08, Colombo: A new scheme to dispose of non-hazardous solid waste was formally launched at the Board of Investment's (BOI's) Biyagama Export Processing Zone (BEPZ), at its Material Recovery Centre (MRC).

A competitive bidding procedure was initiated and Insee Geocycle of Holcim was selected as the party to dispose of the remaining waste.

Under the new solid waste disposal scheme, the non-hazardous industrial waste that has accumulated at the MRC will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner by a third party. This will be done after authorized waste collections of the Zone have selected and removed the waste components that can be re-used or re-cycled.

The introduction of this new scheme reflects the BOI's commitment to continually uphold high environmental standards.

Participating at the event were Mr. M K D Lawrance, Executive Director (Zones), Mr. Sanjeewa Chulakumara, General Manager, Insee Geocycle of Holcim and Ms. Sharika Senanayake, Director, Environmental Sustainability of MAS Capital Pvt Ltd.
