Sat, Oct 6, 2018, 08:10 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 06, Colombo: The Chairman of the National Livestock Development Board (NLDB), who was arrested on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe was remanded today when he was produced before the court.

Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court remanded NLDB Chairman Mr K. Muthuvinayagam until October 18.

The Bribery Commission arrested the NLDB Chairman and another individual yesterday while accepting a sum of Rs 600,000 as a bribe from a businessman.

The Chairman has allegedly requested a bribe of Rs. 1.2 million initially from a businessman in the Katagastota area to expedite the process of leasing a restaurant at the Melsiripura Farms belonging to the National Livestock Board to the businessman.

Later, the official through negotiations with the businessman had agreed to reduce the bribe to Rs 600,000.

The Bribery Commission says the bribe has been negotiated through an intermediary. The Commission was able to arrest the official while soliciting the bribe through the other individual.

The intermediary was arrested in front of the National Livestock Board.
