* Navy divers recover a cache of gunnery items form Arugam Bay lagoon

Oct 04, Colombo: On receipt of information, a group of Navy divers attached to the Southeastern Naval Command has carried out an underwater search operation on Tuesday and recovered a cache of gunnery items from the lagoon area of Arugam bay.

Among the recovered items were; seven (07) 81mm mortar grenades, two (02) 81mm mortar grenade fuses, three (03) 60mm mortar grenades (with fuse), seventy nine (79) 7.62x39mm ball ammunition and one (01) RPG grenade spilling charger, the Navy said.

The underwater operation was carried out for over three hours, under the guidance of the Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera and the supervision of Officer in Charge Naval Detachment Arugam Bay, posing no any danger to the fishermen and civilians in the vicinity.

The recovered gunnery items have been handed over to the Pothuwil Police for further investigation.
