Nov 29, Colombo: Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), the investment promotion agency of Sri Lanka today denied media reports that a special appointment has been made to the agency recently.
The BOI Chairman Hemasiri Fernando in a media statement today said that reports published by number of media institutions and websites about making a special appointment to the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka in recent days are devoid of true facts.
Recent local media reports revealed that President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Champika Malalgoda, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Vijith Malalgoda, as the Director General of the Board of Investments, a day before the President unconstitutionally installed a new government on October 26.
The BOI Chairman Hemasiri Fernando said he would like to make a clarification, since the false reports would have a detrimental effect on the dignity, reputation and reliability of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and its management.
"Accordingly, since I have assumed duties as the Chairman of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, no party has made any new appointments to the Board of Investment to-date."
The BOI Chairman stressed that no measure has been taken to make any appointment of any BOI official permanent.
Accordingly, the BOI chairman requested the media institutions to refrain from damaging the reputation of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, one of the most prestigious and most important institutions in the country, by reporting false news without knowing the true facts.
