* UNP ready to meet President with affidavits from more than 113 MPs

Nov 18, Colombo: The United National Party (UNP), majority party of Sri Lanka parliament, is ready to produce affidavits to the President Maithripala Sirisena from more than 113 parliamentarians supporting the ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said.

If the need arises, more than 113 members can be called to the Presidential Secretariat, MP Ajith P. Perera said at a media briefing held at the Temple Trees in Colombo tonight.

"We met the President today for discussions and informed that the no-confidence motions on the 14th and 16th were passed successfully. The executive or the judiciary cannot challenge the Speaker's decisions according to the Standing Order 76.1. We informed the President if the Speaker's order is to be challenged, the parliament members have to adopt a resolution but they don't have enough MPs," MP Perera said.

Then the MP Wimal Weerawansa has challenged the UNP to show the support of 113 MPs through the affidavits.

"We told the President we are ready to bring affidavits from more than 113 MPs by 10 am tomorrow (Monday) but the President didn't give a nod," MP Perera said.

"We are ready to come to the Presidential Secretariat early in the morning. We hope that the President will give us the opportunity. The Executive cannot interfere with the Judiciary or the Legislature," UNP MP Ajith P. Perera said.
