* Sri Lanka Customs nabs three passengers smuggling gold biscuits worth over Rs. 14 million

Nov 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake have arrested three Sri Lankan passengers who were attempting to smuggle in gold biscuits worth nearly Rs 14.4 million.

The suspects have arrived from Mumbai at 10.50 p.m. last night. They have attempted to depart through the Green Channel when the Customs officers have intercepted them.

Sri Lanka Customs said the suspects have concealed the 48 pieces of gold, 24 gold biscuits weighing 100g each split into halves, in six metal tubes which were attached to the baggage trolleys,.

According to the officials, total weight of the gold biscuits is 2.4 kilograms and is valued at Rs. 14,398,860.

The suspects, aged 48, 46 and 44 are businessmen from Kandy.
