* Sri Lanka President summons parliament on November 14
Sun, Nov 4, 2018, 09:46 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago has issued the gazette notification summoning the parliament on November 14.

According to the Extraordinary gazette notification signed by the Secretary to the President Udaya R. Seneviratne, the Parliament will be reconvened on 14th November at 10:00 a.m.

"KNOW YE, that by virtue of the powers vested in me by paragraph (3)(i) of Article 70 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I, Maithripala Sirisena, President, do by this Proclamation summon Parliament to meet at the Chamber of Parliament, Sri Jayawardenepura, on the Fourteenth day of November, Two Thousand and Eighteen at 10.00 a.m".

President Sirisena prorogued the parliament on October 27 until November 16 after he sacked the unity government's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister of a government led by the UPFA.

President's decision to prorogue the parliament has been seen as a move to entice opposition parliamentarians to support the new prime minister.
