* New U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives arrives in Colombo

Oct 31, Colombo: The new ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and to the Republic of Maldives Alaina B. Teplitz arrived in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo today, the U.S. Embassy in Colombo said welcoming the new envoy.

Teplitz, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last month to be Ambassador to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and to serve concurrently as Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives.

She was sworn as Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives last week. She arrives in Sri Lanka at a time the South Indian nation is engulfed in a political crisis due to the replacing of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe with the China-friendly former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
