July 28, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today granted bail to a Kuwaiti couple who were arrested for attacking five Sri Lanka Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday.
Acting Negombo Magistrate Nelson P. Kumaranayke ordered the couple to be released on two sureties of Rs. 200,000 each when they were produced before the court today. The judge ordered the case to be called again on Monday (July 30).
The Kuwaiti couple has attacked the Customs officers when they tried to stop the couple smuggling a pet dog against Sri Lanka's strict quarantine rules on pet animals.
The five Customs officers including a female officer who were injured when they were assaulted first by the woman and then by her partner were admitted to the Negombo base hospital and they have now been discharged from the hospital.
