* Sri Lanka Railways workers to strike from midnight Sunday

July 22, Colombo: The Railway Technical Services Trade Union Committee has decided to launch a work-to-rule campaign from midnight Sunday (22).

Union's Secretary Kamal Pieris told local media that the trade union action will be taken based on five demands as the committee appointed to look into their problems had not come up with any solutions.

President Maithripala Sirisena in December 2017 appointed a four-member ministerial committee headed by Minister Sarath Amunugama to look into the grievances of railway employees.

The union warned that due to the strike, commuters can expect severe train delays and cancellations.
