* Police arrest five people in Trincomalee with a high-powered metal scanner

July 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police following a tip-off received have arrested five people, who were transporting a high-powered metal scanner in a van.

The police said the high-powered scanner is of the type that is used for the detection of archeological artifacts and buried treasure.

The suspects are residents of the Trincomalee, Anuradhapura and Hidogama areas.

The suspects are to be produced before the Trincomalee Magistrate's Court today.
