July 14, Colombo: The Gamperaliya accelerated rural development program covering all the Divisional Secretariats in the country will be inaugurated on July 15th from Nikaweratiya in Kurunegala district.
Several programs in and around Nikaweratiya will be launched under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and with the participation of Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera and Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
The reconstruction of the Kanuketiya Mudaththawa tank in Nikaweratiya under the Gamperaliya Rural Development program will commence tomorrow. The tank which spans 87 acres has not been renovated since it was built in 1933 in Mudaththawa village where agriculture is the main livelihood of the villagers.
In addition, the opening of the counters in the banks for Enterprise Sri Lanka program and opening of Bank of Ceylon branch in Nikaweratiya are also scheduled to be held.
Gamperaliya fast-track rural development program aims to develop irrigation, rural roads, schools, sanitary facilities and playgrounds, Sathipola, green park, electricity, renovation of religious and archaeological sites, housing development, issuing land deeds and entrepreneurship in all districts of Sri Lanka.
The total Investment of this project is Rs. 65.811 billion. Each Divisional Secretariat will be provided Rs.200 million for the year 2018.
