* Sri Lanka Army Commander's tenure extended for one year

July 11, Colombo: President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena as Commander-In-Chief has extended the term of the Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake for another year, Army Spokesman said.

The new extension will be effective from August 19th.

According to the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathne, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake was due to retire from his position on the 19th of this month.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake assumed duties as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on 5th July 2017.
