* Husband arrested for stabbing death of popular Sri Lankan singer Priyani Jayasinghe

July 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police today arrested the husband of popular Sri Lankan Singer Priyani Jayasinghe over her stabbing death yesterday.

Singer Priyani Jayasinghe was found stabbed to death in her home in Arukgoda, Panadura, 15 miles south of Colombo, yesterday and her husband was suspected of the attack.

The police have received an emergency call on the 119 hotline number and a police team attached to Panadura police found the critically injured singer around 8:45 p.m. Sunday night. She was admitted to Kalubovila Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband, who is alleged to have committed the murder, had fled the area. Panadura South Police following further investigations have been able to arrest her husband near Panadura railway station.

Police have uncovered that the victim and her husband have been quarreling frequently for over a year.

Priyani Jayasinghe, a mother of two, was 51 years old at the time of her death.
