* Colombo Municipal Councilor shot dead in Pettah

July 09, Colombo: An unidentified gunman has fatally shot a Councilor of Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) this morning in Pettah, police said.

The Municipal Councilor has been identified as 40- year-old Krishna Pillai Kirubanandhan.

Police Headquarters said the unidentified gunman who had come on a motorbike shot the Municipal Councilor when he was in a fruit market in Pettah at around 7:45 this morning. The gunman had fled the scene.

Pettah police are conducting further investigations.

The CMC councilor had contested from an independent group at the Local Government Elections which was held earlier this year.
