Dec 18, Colombo: United National Front (UNF) Parliamentarians Malik Samarawickrama, Rishad Bathiudeen and Mano Ganesan have decided not to accept Cabinet Ministerial portfolios in the new government.
Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance MP Mano Ganesan said the announcement was made during today’s United National Front Parliamentary group meeting in response to a request made by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to limit the cabinet portfolios to 30.
"Prime Minister opined to keep number of cabinet ministers at 30 and solicited cabinet aspirants to VOLUNTARILY stay out of cabinet. Myself & Rishad Bathiudeen said "we will stay out without any cabinet portfolio, if you so wish, to keep it at 30," MP Ganesan said in a Twitter message.
Mano Ganesan has added that he will also not accept any State or Deputy Ministerial post.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the UNF Parliamentary group that the new Cabinet will be limited to 30 members according to the Constitution.
