Dec 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka's majority party in parliament, United National Party (UNP) which will form a new government after its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is reinstated as Prime Minister tomorrow, will implement a special program to uplift the living conditions of the people, party's deputy leader parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa said today.
Addressing a press conference held in Colombo today, MP Premadasa said steps will be taken to provide a host of relief to the people under the new government.
Speaking to the media, MP Premadasa said the government may change next year or year after but during the time of the new government the party wants to remedy its shortcomings and fulfill its promises to the people.
"We are not owners of this country, we are only guardians. The temporary guardian ship may change next year through a presidential election or through a general election in 2020. As a model government, we hope to fulfill our commitments to the people rectifying our shortcomings and to go forward protecting the temporary guardianship given to us constitutionally by the people and the trust they placed in us."
"We are prepared, especially, we look forward to joining hands with President Maithripala Sirisena and with his ideas and advice to develop the country as a strong state to prosper and enrich the lives of the people of this country," Mr. Premadasa said.
