JVP MP Vijitha Herath said an impeachment motion can be brought against President Sirisena based on today’s Supreme Court verdict, but the party will only initiate it if President continues to stick to his stance.

MP Herath said he Supreme Court decision has confirmed that the President has violated the Constitution. "Mr. Maithripala Sirisena has been found guilty before the law," he said.

"If he knowingly violates the Constitution article 38 of the Constitution states the action that can be taken against him," he said.

He further stated that in future his civics rights can be removed through a commission.
