* Railway unions threaten to launch strike on December 26
Tue, Dec 11, 2018, 10:04 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 11, Colombo: The Railway Locomotive Engine Drivers Union says trade union action will be launched from the 26th of December if the Cabinet paper that was passed under the good governance government pertaining to addressing salary anomalies and the graded system of the railway service is not enforced.

Secretary of the Union Indika Dodangoda has told NewsRadio that President Maithripala Sirisena must intervene and solve the matter.

If the President fails to address the matter before the 26th of December a joint trade union action will be launched together with several other trade unions, Dodangoda said.

The Union meanwhile requested the Head of State to direct the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport to implement the Cabinet paper regardless of the present political situation of the country.

Indika Dodangoda stressed Engine Drivers, Controllers, Guards, Station Masters and Supervisors will join the trade union action.
