Dec 10, Colombo: The report of the Presidential Commission on Sri Lanka - Singapore Free Trade Agreement (SLFTA) has highlighted that the agreement has been rushed without proper consent of stakeholder institutions, President Maithripala Sirisena said today.

President Sirisena these views when the Experts Committee appointed by him to study the Singapore-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement handed over its report to the President at the Presidential Secretariat this evening.

"Presidential Commission on Sri Lanka - Singapore FTA handed over its report, after a lot of hard work. The report highlights how the agreement has been rushed without proper consent of stakeholder institutions," the President said in a Twitter post.

The committee chaired by retired Economics Professor W.D. Lakshman studied the Sri Lanka - Singapore Free Trade Agreement and its practical impact.

Sri Lanka and Singapore signed the Free Trade Agreement on 23 January 2018 during the official visit of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Colombo.
