* Two arrested with cache of firearms and ammunition

Dec 09, Colombo: The police have seized a cache of weapons and a large stock of ammunition hidden in a house in Beruwela on Sunday and arrested two people with regard to the weapons.

The Kalutara Police Division law enforcement unit has seized 13 firearms and thousands rounds of ammunition from the house of a businessman in Beruwela area.

On information received by the Kalutara District DIG Ranmal Kodituwakku, a motor car was inspected by the police officers on the Baduruliya-Kalawana road at the Labudola junction.

During the inspection, police found a stock of moose meat being transported with no licenses and arrested the two persons in the car.

During interrogation of the two suspects following the arrest, the police have learned about the weapons hidden in the house in Beruwela.

Accordingly, when police searched the house, they have found six 12-bore shotguns, one 2.5mm firearm, an air rifle, firearm used by security forces, an archery weapon and several other weapons.
