* Sri Lanka Customs arrests three Chinese nationals smuggling illegal cigarettes worth Rs. 3.5 million

Dec 07, Colombo: Three Chinese nationals who had attempted to smuggle in foreign cigarettes have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake yesterday.

According to the Customs officials, the haul of cigarettes included 318 cigarette cartons containing 63,600 cigarette sticks. The cigarettes were carefully concealed in the suspects' luggage.

The three Chinese passengers including a female passenger have arrived at the airport around 11 pm last night from Hong Kong aboard a Cathay pacific flight.

Further investigations are carried out by the Customs officers attached to the BIA.
