Dec 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena today said he has always taken decisions in the best interest of the country and will end the current political crisis within a week.
Speaking during the Special Sri Lanka Freedom Party convention held in Colombo on Tuesday, President Sirisena said he will abide by court rulings and urged all political party leaders to support him to end the on-going political impasse.
However, the President once again stressed that he will not reappoint the ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe even if all the parliamentarians in the Parliament supports him.
"This is not because of a personal issue I have with him. He is an unsuitable politician for the country," he said.
President Sirisena held the leader of the UNP responsible for the political crisis which was precipitated by him when he ousted Wickremesinghe form the Prime Minister post last month.
The President said this political crisis was not created by him but the leader of the United National Party who dragged the country to the destruction.
Speaking further, the President said that Ranil Wickremesinghe's extreme liberal political philosophy not only destroyed the country, but also murdered the concept of good governance.
The President added that not only he, but the UNP itself also had to face the adverse consequences of Wickremesinghe's policies and under those circumstances the only solution was to remove the UNP leader from the Prime Minister post.
"Ranil Wickramasinghe destroyed the country, Ranil Wickremesinghe destroyed the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe even somewhat destroyed me," President Sirisena ranted.
The President said he extends his hands of peace to all political parties and the party leaders to end the destructive program of Ranil Wickremesinghe and contribute to build the country again.
