* President assures to take appropriate action following Appeal Court order

Dec 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena has assured the members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that he will abide by the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal and take appropriate action during the next 24 hours.

Following the order by Court of Appeal today President Sirisena has met with TNA leadership to discuss the present political impasse.

The Court of Appeal on Monday issued an interim order restraining Mahinda Rajapaksa and his purported cabinet of ministers of holding public office, until the 12th of December.

TNA parliamentarian M A Sumanthiran said at the meeting President Sirisena has said that in terms of Court order, there is no Prime Minister and a government at present and accordingly he will take necessary action within the next 24 hours.

The President would meet with the National Security Council and other relevant officials tonight, MP Sumanthiran said.
