* President to hold discussions with UNF today
Sun, Dec 2, 2018, 12:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 02, Colombo: Another special discussion is scheduled to be held this evening between the President and the party representatives of the United National Front (UNF) to find a solution to end the month-long political crisis.

Today's discussion is reportedly a continuation of the nearly two-hour long discussion held on last Friday (30) since the meeting has ended without reaching an agreement.

Following the discussion on last Friday, MP Mano Ganesan, who participated in the meeting with the President, tweeted that the UNF leaders meeting with the President ended with "salient progress pending finalization" and another meeting is scheduled for Sunday.

However, MP Ganesan said the discussion with President Sirisena virtually came to a halt, when he said he will not reappoint Ranil Wickremesinghe but any other UNF nominee as Prime Minister,

He said the UNF team will meet President Sirisena Sunday evening with fresh proposals to break the deadlock.

The United National Party yesterday informed the President that the party's has unanimously decided to nominate Ranil Wickremesinghe to the Prime Minister post.
