Sept 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI) increased to 5.9 percent in August 2018 from 5.4 percent in July 2018, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.
The CCPI for all items for the month of August 2018 was 125.8 and it records decrease of 0.04 percentage point compared to the month of July 2018 for which the index was the same. The decrease in the index point by 0.04% was due to the expenditure value decrease of Food items by 0.24% and increase of Non Food items by 0.20%.
The year-on-year (YoY) inflation of Food Group has increased from 5.6 percent in July 2018 to 7.5 percent in August 2018 and that of Non-food Group decreased from 5.3 percent in July to 5.1 percent in August during this period. .
For the month of August 2018, on year to year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 2.27 percent. The contribution of Non Food items was 3.55 percent.
The moving average inflation rate for the month of August 2018 was 5.6 percent.
