* Three police officers arrested by mistake in connection with a robbery released

Aug 21, Colombo: The arrest of three police officers today (21) in connection with an alleged robbery in Kalutara was due to a distortion of facts, the Police Department said.

The Special Task Force (STF) Police this morning arrested the three police officers including an Inspector attached to the Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Unit and two constables.

Further investigations carried out by the Organized Crimes Investigation Division in connection with the robbery have revealed that the police officers were arrest due to an error in facts presented.

Accordingly, the three police officers were was released when they were produced before the Kalutara Magistrate Court.

Five civilians were also arrested in connection with the incident and four of them were remanded till August 23, 2018.
