Sun, Aug 19, 2018, 09:25 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the current government is committed to protect fundamental rights of the people by giving them maximum power and ensuring democracy.

Speaking at an event in Kegalle today, the Prime Minister said the current government is working for the benefit of the people and launched many development projects and programs throughout the country within three years of its office to enrich the people's lives.

"This government is a government with working people, not a horn-tooting, drum-beating government," the Premier said adding that the government has launched many welfare and development programs such as Gamperaliya, Grama Shakthi, and Enterprise Sri Lanka within the three years it was in power.

The Prime Minister was speaking at an event held in Kegalle today to hand over land ownership deeds to 1,364 beneficiaries under the national program to provide 100,000 land deeds.

Speaking further the Prime Minister said today there is a democratic framework in the country and everyone benefits from it as well as taking advantage of the system.

He further said that some say the unity government is not working together. "For the first time two rival parties who were at each other for about 40 - 50 years are now working together and not all problems are going to be solved at once," he said.

Although it was not easy to work together for two opposing parties, it is happening now, he said.

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said every citizen would be ensured the right to land ownership. He added that outdated regulations would be amended to pave the way for that task.

The Prime Minister also commenced the Enterprise Sri Lanka Program in the Kegalle District opening the Business Desk at the Kegalle District Secretariat under the operation to empower economy and society of the Kegalle District from "Sahasak Products" businesses.

The Prime Minister also handed over loans to new entrepreneurs under the Enterprise Sri Lanka Program.
