* Hatton-Colombo main road partially opens after earth slip
Fri, Aug 17, 2018, 08:29 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 17, Colombo: Part of the Hatton-Colombo main road blocked at the Shannon Estate due to an earth slip is partially open now for traffic, the police said.

The earth slide has occurred at around 9:30 this morning due to the recent heavy rainfall in the Western slopes of the Central highlands blocking the main road completely for traffic.

The Hatton Police diverted the traffic along the main highway to the old road and for about two and half hours the road was completely closed for traffic.

Part of the earth mound has been removed now and one lane of the road open for traffic, police said.

The police warns motorists to be vigilant of more earth slides on the main Hatton-Colombo raid as the rains continue.
