Sat, Aug 11, 2018, 09:26 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 11, Colombo: The inter-province private bus strike that was to be launched island wide from midnight Sunday (12) has been suspended.

Inter Provincial Private Bus Owners Bus Association has planned the strike on the basis of a problem in the tender procedure.

President of the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Owners Association Sarath Vijithakumara said the decision to suspend the strike was taken after a discussion with Deputy Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe.

President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association Gemunu Wijeratne said they will not participate in a strike when there is already a train strike continuing and the GCE advanced level examination is being conducted.

He said a strike at this time will severely inconvenience the general public and it is clear that the strikes are launched to fulfill political objectives when the government has provided the necessary facilities for the transport sector in the country.
