* China assures to support Sri Lanka becoming a hub in Indian Ocean

Aug 02, Colombo: The Communist Party of China today assured the support of China and its people for Sri Lanka to achieve its goal of becoming an economic and financial hub of the Indian Ocean.

Guo Yezhou, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) gave the assurance when he met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo today.

Vice Minister Guo Yezhou said under the "One Belt- One Road" program initiated by the Chinese President Xi Jinping opportunities will arise to support Sri Lanka to achieve its goal of becoming the hub of the Indian Ocean.

A delegation of the Communist Party of China headed by the Vice Minister Guo Yezhou called on the Premier at Temple Trees in Colombo today.

Vice Minister Guo Yezhou and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe also exchanged ideas on the steps need to be taken to strengthen the decades-long ties between the United National Party (UNP) and the Communist Party of China.

The two sides also stressed the importance of organizing youth exchange programs between the two countries in the future.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe thanked the Vice Minister and his delegation for the constant support extended by the Communist Party of China to the people of Sri Lanka and to the United National Party.
