* All schools closed today in Gampaha Education Zone due to flooding, will reopen Wednesday
Mon, May 28, 2018, 09:21 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 28, Colombo: The Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has ordered that all government schools in the Gampaha Education Zone be closed today.

Minister Kariyawasam had informed the respective officials to close the schools in the Gampaha education zone due to the prevailing disaster situation as the Attanagalu Oya is overflowing and some main roads and by-roads are submerged.

Education Minister Kariyawasam has said the decision was taken considering the complaints received from the education authorities as well as the parents that the floods in certain areas of Gampaha and suburbs have not yet receded.

"The schools will reopen in the Gampaha education zone on Wednesday since Tuesday is Poya day. The Gampaha education zone will arrange another day as a replacement for today," the media secretary said.
