* Local politico, four others arrested for stealing water pumps

May 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka police have arrested a local politician and four others for allegedly stealing water pumps worth Rs. 39,500 from an agriculture land at Gandariyagama, Ipalogama.

The police said they were arrested following an investigation in conducted in response to a complaint of a theft.

At the time of their arrest the police have seized another eight stolen water pumps from their possession in addition to the one stolen from Ipalogama.

The suspects aged between 23 and 35 were residents of Ipalogama, Karambe and Vijithapura, police said.

They were to be produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate Court on Saturday.

Ipalogama Police is conducting further investigations.
