* Operations of two generators of Sri Lanka's coal power plant halted for maintenance
Sat, May 26, 2018, 11:38 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 26, Colombo: The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has taken steps to halt operations of two generators of the Norochcholai coal power plant for essential repairs.

The CEB said the second and third generators were to be shut down from this morning. Accordingly, only the first generator will be operational generating 200 MW electricity to the national grid.

Since there is sufficient water in hydropower reservoirs these days as torrential rains lashing the island, 55 percent of the daily power requirement will be produced by the hydropower stations.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy said that the completion of the repairs of the 2nd and 3rd generators of the Norochcholai coal power plant will take up to 5 days.
