* Maldivian national arrested with 2.3 kilos of heroin at Colombo airport

May 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today arrested a Maldivian national attempting to smuggle in over 2 kilograms of heroin.

The arrest was made following a raid carried out on the information given to the officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau.

The suspect was arrested in the departure terminal with 2.39 kilograms of heroin worth 24.4 million rupees.

Investigations revealed that the Maldivian national had arrived in the country previously, on 15 occasions since 2016.

The police had obtained permission to detain the suspect for seven days for questioning after being produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate Court today (23) and the Police Narcotics Bureau will conduct further inquiries.
