Tue, May 22, 2018, 09:25 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 22, Colombo: Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has instructed the Treasury officials to release sufficient funds to provide relief to flood victims immediately.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and Media, Secretary Dr. R.H.S Samaratunga states that funds have been released to relevant units immediately after requests received from the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Government Agents to provide relief, on a district level, to people affected by the adverse weather condition.

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday directed the relevant authorities to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the adverse weather conditions throughout the country.

The President said funding should not be considered a problem to provide relief and the relevant authorities should provide the necessary relief without any delay.

The Premier instructed the officers in charge of relevant departments to work with maximum efficiency in providing relief to affected people and requested the people's representatives of Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas to take the lead in disaster relief work cooperating with Government Agents and Divisional Secretaries.
