* Government to recruit more qualified teachers to uplift estate sector schools

May 20, Colombo: Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that the present government not waiting for opportunities and alleviating all obstacles is systematically working to develop the country's education along with the development of the country.

Minister Kariyawasam made this statement at an event held in Battaramulla to give appointments to teacher assistants for Tamil medium schools in the estate sector.

The Minister handed over appointment letters to 92 teacher assistants recruited to the Tamil media schools in the estate sector.

Speaking at the event, the Minister said the children in the estate sector should enjoy the benefits of free education and actively contribute to the workforce of the country to become a generation capable of winning the future world.

Minister Kariyawasam further said the government is now able to cease the steady decline in the educational system of the plantation sector in the recent past and recruit more qualified teachers according to the Teachers' Constitution in order to develop the plantation sector education.

State Minister of Education V. Radhakrishnan, Education Ministry Secretary Tissa Hewawithana, Additional Secretary Hemantha Premathilake and Director General of the National Institute of Education Dr. Jayanthi Gunasekara were also present on the occasion.
