* Special commodity levy on dhal increased

May 09, Colombo: The Special commodity levy on imported split Dhal would be increased with effect from midnight today, the Finance Ministry said.

Accordingly, the Special commodity levy on kilo of whole dhal will be increased by Rs. 1 from Rs. 6 to Rs. 7 while for a kilo of split dhal, the levy will be increased by Rs. 3 from Rs. 9 to Rs. 12.

The prices would be increased in accordance with the increase of dhal prices in the International market, it said. The new levy would be effective for six months.
