Mar 19, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday (May 8) congratulated Russia's Vladimir Putin who was elected for another six years to lead the country after securing an expected landslide win at Sunday's presidential election, on his "solid victory".

"Congratulations to President of Russia Mr. Vladimir Putin on his solid victory of the Presidential Election," President Sirisena said in his official Twitter feed.

"We are confident in the Russian people's ability to achieve new level of progress in country's development under his leadership in the new term," the Sri Lankan President said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin secured a fourth term wining 76.6 percent of the votes at Sunday's presidential election that everyone expected him to win.
