* BMW ended up in canal driven by a relative of Minister Kabir Hashim

Mar 18, Colombo: Minister of Higher Education and Highways Kabir Hashim said the BMW car that ended up in a canal at Thalawathugoda in Battaramulla early Saturday morning after crashing into two other cars, was driven by a relative of the Minister.

Issuing a statement the Minister said he noted the media reports on the crash published in some websites and one of the vehicles that involved in the crash was drive by his relative.

However, the Minister stressed that his relative is not a member of his staff and he has no involvement whatsoever in the Minister's political affairs.

According to media reports, the BMW car leaving a nearby night club around 6.00 a.m. on Saturday crashed into two vehicles before plunging into the canal. The two people in the BMW have fled the scene in a three wheeler.

However, there were no casualties reported and the owners of the other two cars have reported the incident to the police.

Thalangama Police have commenced investigations into the incident.

Minister Hashim further emphasized that he will give his maximum support to the police for their investigations.
