* Court issues warrant to ex-Central Bank governor, extends remand of bond scam suspects

Mar 15, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today issued warrants to former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, a suspect of the Central Bank bond scam and further remanded the other two suspects.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered to issue a warrant since Arjuna Mahendran, who is currently out of the country, for the second time has failed to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department to a record a statement.

The Magistrate gave this order following a request made by the Criminal Investigations Department for the issue of a warrant against the suspect. At the previous hearing the court has ordered Mahendran to appear before CID on March 8 to give a statement.

An officer of the CID said that the information had been passed on to Mahendran through the courier service, email and through mobile phone message.

At the request of the Criminal Investigations Department, telecom companies were ordered to issue information on several telephone numbers.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Fort Magistrate further remanded the other two suspects of the case former Director of Perpetual Treasuries Arjun Aloysius and CEO Kasun Palisena until the 29th of this month.
