Mon, Mar 5, 2018, 11:03 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 05, Colombo: The report of the five-member committee appointed to make recommendations to restructure the United National Party is due to be handed over to the leader of the party, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today.

State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene is the Chairman of this committee while Harin Fernando, Sagala Ratnayake, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Ajith P Perera are the other members of the committee.

The committee was appointed by the Prime Minister following a meeting held last month with the younger members of the party to discuss future plans of the UNP after the setback experienced by the party at the local government elections held on February 10th.

During the meeting, the Premier assured the younger party members that the party is working towards creating a new leadership in the UNP. Younger members of the UNP leadership structure will be given the opportunity to develop a plan for next two years, the Premier said.
