* Colombo Municipal Commissioner removed from post over Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse
Fri, Mar 2, 2018, 10:00 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 02, Colombo: According to a report of the investigation into the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse last year, the Governor of Western Province, K. C. Logeswaran has taken steps to remove the Commissioner of Colombo Municipal Council V.K. Anura from his post.

The measure has reportedly been taken according to recommendations made in the report of the investigation by the High Court judge Chandradasa Nanayakkara into the collapse of the garbage dump at Meethotamulla.

It has been decided to attach the removed official to the Western Province Chief Secretary's Office.

A section of the mountainous landfill in Meethotamulla collapsed on 14 April 2017 causing a landslide that buried dozens of low-income homes and killed 32 people.
