* Army personnel arrested for Diyathalawa bus explosion

Mar 02, Colombo: An Army officer suspected of carrying a grenade and causing an explosion in a private passenger bus in Kahagolla, Diyathalawa was arrested today.

The explosion occurred in a private bus on February 21 while it was plying in the general area of Kahagolla, Diyathalawa injuring 19 passengers including seven Army personnel and five Air Force personnel.

The suspect identified as Army Sergeant Major Janaja Lesle Kumara Chandrasena, who also received serious injuries in the blast and subsequent fire, was arrested while receiving treatment at the Diyathalawa Hospital.

The suspect was produced before Bandarawela Magistrate and remanded until March 16.

In addition to ta police investigation, the Army also appointed a six-member Court of Inquiry to probe the incident. Further investigations are continuing.
