* Senior immigration officer arrested with Rs. 36 million worth gold

June 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Customs has arrested a senior immigration and emigration officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake with 6 kilograms of gold worth Rs. 36 million.

The immigration officer was arrested at around 11.30 pm last night in the Departure Terminal of the airport when he was attempting to leave the airport with 60 gold biscuits weighing 6 kilograms concealed in his pockets.

It is suspected that an Indian national who had arrived from abroad has handed over the gold to the immigration officer at the airport.

Sri Lanka Customs is conducting a broad investigation into the incident.
