* Special High Court to commence on July 04th

June 13, Colombo: The Special High Court which will pave the way to expedite trials of large-scale crimes and bribery and corruption cases, will commence operations on 4th July, cabinet spokesmen Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.

Responding to media at the weekly cabinet briefing today, Minister Senaratne said two more such courts will also start by the month of September.

In the special High Court, cases will be investigated by a panel of three judges. The court appearances will be be conducted daily to enable to complete hearing of court cases within a month or two.

The Judicature (Amendment) Bill enabling the establishment of a three-member High Court to hear large-scale crimes and bribery and corruption cases was passed in Parliament last month.
