* Minister Mangala Samaraweera appointed as Vice Chairman of UNP

June 05, Colombo: Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the United National party, effective 26 April 2018.

Minister Samaraweera said he received an official letter from the Prime Minister and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe announcing the appointment.

Commenting on the appointment Minister Samaraweera in a Facebook post said "30 years ago, when I was first appointed as the SLFP organizer for the Matara district, I didn't even, in my wildest dreams, thought that I would get such a position in the grand old party."

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe welcoming Minister Samaraweera to the post in a Twitter message said with the recent appointments to the leadership, the party has become a formidable team.

"I am pleased to welcome Minister for Finance and Mass Media, Mangala Samaraweera, to the position of Vice Chairman of the UNP. With the recent appointments we have made to the party, we are a truly formidable team, capable of delivering for people now and into the future," the Premier said in his message.
