* Veteran actor Roy de Silva passes away

July 01, Colombo: Veteran Sri Lankan film director, producer and actor Roy de Silva passed away this morning while receiving treatment at the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital following a heart attack. He was 80 years old.

Born on 30 August 1937 in Colombo Roy de Silva contributed to the Sri Lankan film industry as an actor, director, producer, screenwriter and background musician for over 50 years.

Roy De Silva began his acting career in the film "Sujage Rahasa" in 1964 and changed the pathway towards film direction in 1977 as a director of comedy films becoming one of Sri Lanka's most successful film makers.

He was married to fellow Sri Lankan actress Sumana Amarasinghe and they have two children.
