Jan 19, Colombo: At the invitation of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena state leaders of two Asian nations will visit Sri Lanka during the next week.

Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from 22-24 January 2018 while President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo will visit Sri Lanka from 24-25 January 2018, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Singaporean Premier will be received at the Presidential Secretariat on the morning of 23rd January with an official guard of honor and gun salute that will be followed by official bilateral discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena. A Free Trade Agreement between Sri Lanka and Singapore will be signed following bilateral talks.

During the visit, Prime Minister Lee will also meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and discuss economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The visiting Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a Business Forum in which leading businesspersons and investors from both Singapore and Sri Lanka will be present.

Sri Lanka and Singapore established diplomatic relations in 1979 and enjoy a strong and robust bilateral relationship that has been built on mutual understanding, respect and people-to-people contacts. An Official visit of a Singaporean Prime Minister to Sri Lanka takes place after 13 years.

The Indonesian President will be accorded a ceremonial welcome with guard of honor and twenty one gun salute at the Presidential Secretariat on the evening of 24th January, followed by official bilateral discussions with President Sirisena on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. Several Memoranda of Understanding are to be inked between the two countries during the visit.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will also have discussions on economic, trade and investment cooperation with President Widodo at a breakfast meeting on 25th January.

Sri Lanka and Indonesia established diplomatic relations 65 years ago, and have been maintaining cordial bilateral relations since then. In 2016, President Maithripala Sirisena undertook a State visit to Indonesia.
